Song's background
‘Sangatsu Kokonoka’ (3月9日) was first released in 2004 sung by Remioromen (レミオロメン) which is a Japanese rock band, formed by three males, Ryota Fujimaki, Keisuke Maeda and Osamu Jinguji in 2000.
When it was used as a soundtrack for the TV series 1 Litre of Tears (1リットルの涙 Ichi Rittoru no Namida) in 2005, and changing the style of the song, it became a great hit song in that year. In the series it was used as a theme song of the main character Aya who got a serious disease. It made the viewers hope her being cured completely. Actually the highest viewing rate of the series reached 20.5% and they were selected as one of the best TV series in 2005.
It has been chosen as the top graduation song by young people in a research for four consecutive years from 2007 to 2010.
This song was composed and written by Ryota Fujimaki (藤巻亮太), a member of the group, originally for his friend who was going to get married in order to cheer and bless the friend.
Interpretation of the lyrics
This song is reciting how beautiful the life is with those whom we love. Also it tells what a wonderful world we live. It expresses appreciation for every little thing. This song would really help when we face difficulties.
You sometimes want to give up everything and blame yourselves. When you experience such difficulties, by listening to this song you would regain your courageous and cheerful feelings and also realize that there are so much warmness around you.
The lyrics also express waiting for coming spring. It implies how much you are blessed. Nature comforts you when you feel uneasy.
You can be much stronger than actually you are when you are surrounded by beloved people.
