Background information of the song

It's a song from Spirited Away, very well known internationally, released in Japan in 2001, and later in different countries including the UK. 

Interpretation of the lyrics

This is when Chihiro and Haku go their separate way, I think, and they are wondering if they will see each other again. I think Chihiro represents human beings and Haku the nature. The lyrics suggest some hope found even in a devastated condition caused by human beings as far as Chihiro remembers Haku in her heart.
