This song is composed by Miyuki Nanajima who is very famous singer in Japan, and which is mainly about destiny to meet someone. That’s why, this song is sung in wedding ceremony. Also, the song was covered by Bank Band which is organized by Kazutoshi Sakurai from Mr.children, and I prefer this version.

Interpretation of the lyrics

To summarize, this song is mainly saying about this below.

Thread means “person” or the persons “experience” or “life itself” in this song.

We don't know why and when we meet someone (another thread) who is important for you, which can be best friend, lover or someone else.

In our life, we have a lot of experiences (threads), which can be great but also terrible.

However, even if the experience is terrible, you can encourage someone with the experience because you know the feeling.

These kinds of threads can be no meaning by itself, but once you meat right thread, you can make “woven cloth” with him or her.
