A happy new year. Today, the sun is shinning in Edinburgh, the sky is blue and it is mild without wind, though the air is cold. Last year in 2011 many people lost their families or friends and also lost their houses by the earthquake and tsunami on 11 March. The disaster of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant followed has been still affecting wide areas.

新年明けましておめでとうございます。今日のエディンバラは、風もなく穏やかで、青空が広がり、空気は冷たいものの、太陽がまぶしいほどの良い天気です。昨年2011年は、3月11日に起こった震災で、多くの方が家族や友人を亡くされ、また、住む家を奪われた年でした。引き続き起こった福島第一原子力発電所の事故は、現在もまだ広範な地域に影響を与え続けています。

I apologise that it has been long time since my previous article in Blog. During the period of absence, 'Cheer Up Japan Concert' was organised by the Japanese Singing Group in May and 'Cheer Up Japan Festival' was held in Auguest in order to support Ishinomaki-city by a committee set up for this event. Currently together with another group, a new committee has been organised to prepare events in March 2012 to commemorate the  disaster.    

ブログの更新が随分空いてしまい、申し訳ありませんでした。この間、5月には、日本語合唱団主催の「元気のでる音楽会」を開き、引き続き、8月には、石巻市支援の「日本祭り」を実行委員会を結成して取り組みました。現在は、別のグループと一緒に、2012年3月に震災を記念した企画を新たに実行委員会を組んで準備中です。

On 2 April, Saturday, the Japanese Singing Group and the committee for setting up the Japanese Institute of Scotland particilated in the event 'Takidashi: Japanese Potluck', which aimed at fundraising for the victims of Japan's Tsunami and Earthquake.

４月２日（土曜日）に、日本語合唱団とスコットランド日本会館準備委員会は、日本の津波と地震の被災者の方のための資金集めの「炊き出し：日本食持ち寄りパーティ」に参加しました。

The Japanese Singing Group sang at an event called 'Cakes for Japan in Edinburgh' held at Quaker Meeting House on 26 March, Saturday. We also collected written messages there to those who have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

日本語合唱団は３月２６日（土曜日）に、クエーカーミーティングハウスで持たれた「日本へのケーキインEdinburgh」という企画で歌いました。私たちは、また日本の地震と津波によって影響を受けた人々への書かれたメッセージもそこで集めました。

The committee which prepares to set up the Japanese Institute of Scotland had its second meeting on 12 March, Saturday, from 3pm.

スコットランド日本会館の設立を準備する委員会は、３月１２日、午後３時より委員会の第二回の集まりをもちました。

The Japanese Singing Group performed in two events on 18 adn 19 March, after preparing for them at its eighteenth meeting on 17 March, Thursday. The both events were really successful, raising money for the support of victims of Japan's earthquakes and tsunami.

日本語合唱団は、３月１７日（木曜日）に合唱団の１８回目の集まりで準備をし、３月１８日と１９日に、二つの企画で歌いました。日本の地震と津波の被災者のかたへの支援のための資金集めがなされ、両企画ともに、とても成功をおさめました。

The seventeenth meeting of the Japanese Singing Group was held on 10 March, Thursday, from 7 to 8.30pm at Alison House of Edinburgh University. Eight members rehearsed two songs to prepare for our performance at Karaoke party to be held on 18 March by Japanese Society of Edinburgh University.

日本語合唱団の第１７回の集まりは、３月１０日（木曜日）の午後７時から８時半までエディンバラ大学のアリソンハウスで持たれました。８人のメンバーが、３月１８日にもたれるJapanese Societyのカラオケパーティで歌うために、二つの曲を練習しました。

The second meeting of the Film Group in 2010/2011 will be held on 11 March, Friday, from 7pm at Cafe Bar in Filmhouse supposing to watch a Japanese film entitled 'Bird people in China' (Chugoku no Chojin) after it. For details, please visit 'Film Group'.

今年度（２０１０・２０１１年）の映画の会の第二回の集まりが、３月１１日（金曜日）の午後７時より、「中国の鳥人」と題された日本映画をその後に見る前提で、フィルムハウスのカフェバーにてもたれます。詳しくは「映画の会」をご覧ください。

The Japanese Singing Group sung three songs at Global Village organised by Aiesec Edinburgh, a student society,  on 1 March. Eleven including two temporary memebers joined the singing and enjoyed the event.

日本語合唱団は、３月１日に学生団体であるアイゼックエディンバラによって企画された地球村で、三曲歌いました。２人の臨時のメンバーを含む１１人が歌に参加し、企画を楽しみました。  

The fifteenth meeting of the Japanese Singing Group was held on 24 February at Alison House from 7 to 9pm. There were eleven attendants, including two new ones.

日本語合唱団の第１５回目の集まりは、２月２４日午後７時から９時まで、アリソン・ハウスにて持たれました。二人の新しい方を含め、１１人の方の参加でした。

The Japanese Singing Group participated in the International Evening 2011 hosted by International Student Centre of the Edinburgh University and Edinburgh University Student Association global held on Friday, 11 February from 6 to 9.30pm. Twelve memebers attended it and sung two songs and managed a stall introducing Japanese culture.

日本語合唱団は、2月１２日（金曜日）の6時より9時半までもたれた、エディンバラ大学国際学生センターとエディンバラ大学学生協会グローバルが主催した「国際的な夕べ２０１１」に参加しました。12人のメンバーが参加し、二曲の歌を歌い、また、日本文化を紹介する出店を運営しました。

The 13th meeting of the Japanese Singing Group was on 3rd February (Thursday) from 7pm till 8:30pm at Edinburgh University's Alison House. At this meeting we planned for the International Evening 2011 on 11th February where we will perform and set up a stall as well. The event is hosted by the International Student Centre and the Student Association of Edinburgh University.

第１３回の日本語合唱団は、２月３日（木曜日）に午後７時より８時半までエディンバラ大学のアリソン・ハウスにて持たれました。この会では、２月１１日（金曜日）に予定されているエディンバラ大学の国際学生センターとエディンバラ大学学生協会が主催する、インターナショナル・イーブニング２０１１に参加して歌うこと、出店を出すことが合意されました。

A committee of the Japanese Institute of Scotland has been set up. A meeting was held on 29 January for this purpose.

スコットランド日本会館の委員会が設立されました。そのための集まりが１月２９日（土曜日）に持たれました。

The twelfth meeting of the Japanese Singing Group was held on Thursday, 27 January, at Edinburgh University's Alison House from 7 to 9 pm.

第１２回目の日本語合唱団の集まりが、１月２７日（木曜日）にエディンバラ大学のアリソン・ハウスにて午後７時より９時までもたれました。

The 11th meeting of the Japanese Singing Group was held on 20th January, Thursday, at University of Edinburgh's Alison House from 7 till 9 in the evening.

2011年が幸多きものでありますように！！！

みなさん、冬のお休みをどうお過ごしでしょうか。キリスト教では今日はクリスマスの日。外は凍るように寒いのですが、心の温まる一日でありますよう、お祈りしています。

How have you been spending this winter holiday? In Christianity today is the day of Christmas. Although outside is freezingly cold, I wish you all a warm-hearted day.  

Thanks to the Bazaar on 11 December, the Japanese Singing Group was invited to sing at Peruvian Christmas Party held on 18 December.  Nine members attended to sing three songs and enjoyed Peruvian hot chocolate, cakes and foods.

１２月１１日にもたれたバザーがきっかけとなり、日本語合唱団は、１２月１８日に開かれたペルーの方たちのクリスマスパーティで歌うようお誘いを受けました。９人のメンバーが参加し、３曲歌うとともに、ペルーのホットチョコレート、ケーキ、食事を楽しみました。

The Japanese Singing Group sang twice and sold Japanese rice balls and bookmarks at the Bazaar organised by the Welcoming Association held at the Tollcross Community Centre on 11 December, Saturday. Around 200 people probably joined the event in total.

日本語合唱団は、１２月１１日（土曜日）にトルクロス・コミュニティ・センターでもたれたウェルカミング協会主催のバザーで、二度の歌う機会を与えていただくとともに、おにぎりとしおりを販売しました。会場には、おそらく合計では、２００人くらいの方が訪れたとのことでした。

Today's meeting of the Japanese Singing Group has been cancelled due to the snow. I am very sorry for the decision at the last minute!!!

今日の日本語合唱団の集まりは、雪のため、中止になりました。ぎりぎりでの決定を申し訳ありません！！

The 7th meeting of the Japanese Singing Group was held on 25 November at The University of Edinburgh's Alison House. With the addition of 2 new attendants the meeting started from 7 and went on till 8:30.

第7回目の日本語合唱団は、11月25日（木曜日）にエディンバラ大学のアリソン・ハウスで午後7時から8時半までもたれました。お二人の新しい方が、参加してくださいました。

On 16 November I had a chance to catch up with Ms Calyn Tsukishima who encouraged the Japanese Singing Group. I thought I would share some thoughts and impressions left from the conversation.

11月16日に、合唱団のすすめかたについて月嶋カリンさんとお話をする機会がありました。今回は、そのときの話から印象に残ったことを皆さんにもお伝えできればと思います。

The Japanese Singing Group had the fifth and sixth meetings on 11 & 18 November at Edinburgh University's Alison House. At the moment we are rehearsing songs to sing at Bazaar run by the Welcoming Association at the Tollcross Community Centre on 11 December, Saturday.

日本語合唱団は、11月11日および18日に、第五回、第六回の集まりをエディンバラ大学のアリソン・ハウスにてもちました。現在は、トルクロス・コミュニティ・センターで開かれる、12月11日（土曜日）のウェルカミング協会のバザーで歌うことを目標に練習をしています。

This year in joint partnership with the International Welcoming Cinema Club, the Film Group had its first screening on 14 November (Thursday) at Tollcross Community Centre. Altogether a total of 37 people attended the showing. After the film 15 people went on to a different location to have an indepth discusion about the film and an exchange of thoughts and opinions.

今年度はじめての映画の会は、ウェルカミング国際シネマクラブと共催で、11月4日（木曜日）にトルクロス・コミュニティセンターでもたれました。合計で37名の方が参加されました。討論は、別の場所に移動して行われましたが、15名の方が参加され、興味深い意見が交わされました。

On the 28 October the Japanese Singing Group had its fourth meeting from 7pm at Edinburgh University's Alison House. Since the start of the singing group we had the biggest turn out yet with 7 newcomers bringing the number of singing group attendants to 17.

10月28日（木曜日）に、日本語合唱団の第4回の集まりが、エディンバラ大学、アリソン・ハウスで午後7時よりもたれました。これまでで最高の17名の方が参加してくださいました。そのうち、7名のかたは、新しい参加者でした。

The fourth meeting of the Japanese Singing Group will be held on Thursday, 28 October, from 7 to 8.30pm at Alison House, Edinburgh University. On this day, we will vote for songs we would like to sing in our group.

日本語合唱団の第4回集まりは、10月28日（木曜日）、午後7時から8時半まで、エディンバラ大学のアリソン・ハウスでもたれます。この日は、グループで歌いたい曲を投票で選ぶ予定です。

The third meeting of the Japanese Singing Group was held on 21 October at Alison House. We had 15 attendants, including British, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Swedish, and Taiwanese. 

日本語合唱団の第三回目の集まりは、アリソンハウスで10月21日にもたれました。イギリス人、中国人、日本人、韓国人、スウェーデン人、台湾人を含む、15人の参加者でした。

At the third meeting, we will revise 'Kimio nosete' and newly try a song called 'Furusato' which was sung on 16 October and at Spring Concert in May.

第3回目の集まりでは、「君をのせて」を復習します。また新しく、「故郷」という歌を歌います。この歌は、10月16日に、また5月の春のコンサートで歌われた歌です。

Thanks to the invitation of Mr John Melvin, an organiser of the event entitled 'Sukottorando meets Japan', the Japanese Singing Group sang in front of an audience for the first time in 2010/2011 on Saturday, 16 October. I sincerely appreciate Mr Melvin's invitation to us.

「スコットランドと日本の出会い」と題されたイベントの企画者のお一人であるジョン・メルビンさんのご招待により、日本語合唱団は、10月16日（土曜日）、２０１０・１１年度はじめて、聴衆の前で歌いました。 メルビンさんのご招待に心よりのお礼を申し上げます。

The Japanese Singing Group had the second meeting, in reality the first meeting, on 14 October, Thursday, from 7 to 8.30pm at Alison House, Edinburgh University. There were in total 14 people attended, including British, Chinese, Swedish, Tiwanese, and Japanese. They are both students and non-students. Apart from two including me, all attendants were new to the group

日本語合唱団は、10月14日（木曜日）、午後7時から8時半まで、エディンバラ大学のアリソンハウスにて、第二回目の、事実上一回目の集まりを持ちました。合計で、イギリス人、中国人、スウェーデン人、台湾人、日本人を含む、14人のかたが参加されました。学生、また学生ではないかた、両方が含まれていました。 私を含む二人を除いては、グループに初めて参加された方たちでした。

Yesterday the first meeting of the Japanese Singing Group in 2010/2011 was held at the cafe next to the main library in Edinburgh University. It decided several things about this year's activities of the group.

昨日、日本語合唱団の今年度始めての集まりが、エディンバラ大学の中央図書館の横の喫茶店で開かれました。今年のグループの活動についていくつかのことを決めました。

The Japanese Singing Group will resume meetings on Thursday, 7 October 2010.

日本語合唱団は、2010年10月7日に集まりを再開します。

I am now back to Edinburgh! Based on last year's experiences I hope to conduct actitivies this year together with a group of people. I would suggest how to do it as soon as possible!

エディンバラに戻ってきました！昨年の経験にもとづいて、今年は、ボランティアの人たちと一緒に活動をすすめることを考えたいと願っています。どうすればいいのか、できるだけ早くに提案をさせていただきますね！

Activities of the Japanese Singing Group and the Film Group will be off until early October. I hope we could do a new start in October! 

日本語合唱団と映画の会の活動は、10月はじめまでお休みします。10月には新たな出発ができるようにと願っています！

Ms Calyn Tsukishima has started writing in her blog about her experience joining the Spring Concert on 28 May.

月嶋カリンさんが5月28日の春のコンサートに参加した経験について、彼女のブログに書き始めてくださっています。 

Yesterday's film night for 'Sprited Away' jointly hosted by the Welcoming International Cinema Club and the Film Group had a good turn-out. It was held at the Tollcross Community Centre from 6.30pm. As far as I noticed there were 30 people watched the film. Half of them stayed for the discussion after the film. It was interesting and enjoyable!

昨日のウェルカミング国際映画クラブと映画の会によって共催された「千と千尋の神隠し」の映画の夜は、とても盛況でした。会は、トルクロス・コミュニティ・センターで午後６時半からもたれました。私が気がついた限りでは３０人の方が映画を見てくださいました。半数のかたが、映画のあとの討論に参加してくださり、討論は興味深く、楽しいものでした！

I met Ms Calyn Tsukishima in London on 6 July before her moving to Vietnum. Mr Jamie Duck, a member of the Japanese Singing Group who happened to be at his home near London, and Ms Kuniko Kamioka, a Japanese professional photographer, who kindly provided me one night stay at her flat in London, also joined in the meeting.

私は月嶋カリンさんと、７月６日、月嶋さんがベトナムに移動する前にお会いしました。たまたまロンドン近くの実家に帰っておられた日本語合唱団のメンバーであるジェイミー・ダックさんと、親切にもロンドンで私を一晩、フラットにとめてくださった日本人のプロの写真家である神岡邦子さんも集まりには参加されました。

The Welcoming International Cinema Club and the Film Group jointly host a film night to watch the film 'Spirited Away' made by the director Hayao Miyazaki on 15 July, Thursday, from 6:30pm to 9pm at the Tollcross Community Centre. This is part of the Welcoming International Cinema Club's regular Thursday film nights.

ウェルカミング国際映画クラブと映画の会は、一緒に７月１５日（木曜日）にトルクロス・コミュニティ・センターで午後６時半から９時まで宮崎駿監督作品「千と千尋の神隠し」を見る映画の夜を持ちます。これは、ウェルカミング国際映画クラブの通例の木曜日の映画の夜の一環です。

The Spring Concert held on 28 May, Friday, was a great success. There were around 100 people joined our concert. I thank everybody who supported us, in particular the university of Edinburgh, our sponsors (AIHUA, Bonsai, Miso & Sushi, and Skett), and the joint host Edinburgh University Japanese Society. But there is one thing I have to apologise.

５月２８日（金曜日）に開かれた春のコンサートは、大成功でした。私たちのコンサートには約１００名の方が参加してくださいました。私たちをご支援くださった全てのかた、特に、エディンバラ大学、私たちのスポンサーの方々（ＡＩＨＵＡ，Ｂｏｎｓａｉ，Ｍｉｓｏ＆Ｓｕｓｈｉ，そして、すけっと）、また、共催団体であるエディンバラ大学ジャパニーズソサイティに感謝いたしたく思います。ですが、一点、お詫びを申し上げないといけないことがあります。

On 28 May, Edinburgh University Japanese Society and Japanese Singing Group will jointly host the Spring Concert to be held at the Reid Concert Hall, Edinburgh University, from 6.30 to 8.00pm. On 26 May I interviewed Ms Calyn Tsukishima, who is guest to the concert.　

５月２８日、エディンバラ大学ジャパニーズソサイティと日本語合唱団は、午後６時半から８時までエディンバラ大学のリードコンサートホールにてもたれる春のコンサートを共催します。２６日、コンサートのゲストである、月嶋カリンさんにインタビューをさせていただきました。

The Spring Concert has now got four sponsors. They are AIHUA, chinese supermarket, Bonsai, Japanese restaurant, Miso & Sushi, Japanese restaurant, and すけっと (pronounced as skett), Japanese tour operator. 

春のコンサートには、今、４つのスポンサーがいます。中国スーパーマーケットのAIHUA、日本食レストランの盆栽、同じく日本食レストランのMiso & Sushi、そして、日本ツアーオペレーターのすけっとです。

One of the songs planned to be sung at the Spring Concert is 'Tsubasao kudasai'(Give me wings). In fact Ms Susan Boyle who became famous via the TV programme called 'Britain's got talent' has covered this song in English as 'Wings to Fly'.

春のコンサートで歌うことが予定されている歌の一つは、「翼をください」です。実は、「Britain's got talent」という番組を通じて有名になったスーザンボイルさんがこの歌を英語で「Wings to Fly」としてカバーしておられます。

The Japanese Singing Group has already 33 individuals who has attended during 17 meetings since last September.

日本語合唱団は、昨年９月以来の１７回の集まりを通じて、３３名の方に参加してきていただいています。

For the Spring Concert on 28b May jointly hoted by Edinburgh University Japanese Society and the Japanese Singing Group, we are having Ms Calyn Tsukishima, professional soul singer from Japan. She is the only Japanese singer who has performed at the legendary Body and Soul in New York City.

エディンバラ大学ジャパニーズソサイティと日本語合唱団によって共催される５月２８日の春のコンサートには、日本からプロのソウル歌手である月嶋カリンさんをお迎えすることになっています。彼女は、伝説的なニューヨークシティのＢｏｄｙ　ａｎｄ　Ｓｏｕｌで歌われた唯一の日本人歌手です。

I have been trying to advertise the Spring Concert in various ways. One thing I have been so far doing is to ask Japanese restaurants and other places in Edinburgh to put the poster for the concert or to keep some flyers.

春のコンサートをいろいろな方法で宣伝しようと試みています。これまでやってきていることの一つは、エディンバラの日本食レストランや、そのほかの場所にコンサートのポスターを貼ったり、チラシを置いてもらえないかとお願いすることです。

We had already four meetings of the Japanese Singing Group to prepare for the spring concert on 28 May.

私たちは、すでに５月２８日の春のコンサートにむけた準備のため、４回の日本語合唱団の集まりを持ちました。

The Film Group and the Welcoming International Cinema Club watched and discussed 'Tokyo Sonata' on 15 April. This is the second part of the report (this is final) on that meeting.

映画の会とウェルカミング国際映画クラブは４月１５日に「トウキョウソナタ」を鑑賞し、議論しました。これは、その会の報告の第二回目（これで終わり）です。

I am very sorry for this much delayed report. The seventh meeting of the Film Group, jointly run by the Welcoming International Cinema Club, was held on 15 April at the Tollcross Community Centre from 6:30pm.

The eighth meeting of the Film Group will be held after watching 'City of Life and Death' directed by Mr Lu Chuan at the Filmhouse, Edinburgh, from 5:45pm on 30 May, Sunday.

The fifth meeting of the Japanese Singing Group this year was held yesterday. Three new members attended it.

今年５回目の日本語合唱団の集まりが、昨日もたれました。３人の新しいメンバーが参加してくださいました。

The next meeting of the Film Group is to be held at Filmhouse Cafe Bar after watching the film 'Fourteen' at the Filmhouse, Edinburgh, on Sunday, 14 March, 2010, starting at 1pm.

映画の会の次回の集まりは、２０１０年３月１４日、日曜日に、エディンバラのフィルムハウスで、午後１時から始まる、映画「１４歳」を見たあとフィルムハウスのカフェバーで開かれます。

Today the Japanese Singing Group sang at the exhibition opening run by the final year students in MA Fine Art at the Edinburgh College of Art (part of University of Edinburgh).

今日、日本語合唱団は、エディンバラ芸術大学（エディンバラ大学の一部）のＭＡファイン・アート専攻の最終学年の学生さんたちによって主催された展示会のオープニングで歌いました。

On Thursday, 4 March, a joint meeting of the Film Group and the Welcoming International Cinema Club was held at the Tollcross Community Centre from 6.30pm.

Last Wednesday at Edinburgh Univeristy's Japanese Society's meeting I watched the film 'Nobody knows'.

The Japanese Singing Group is performing at an exhibition opening on Monday, 8 March. The exhibition is organised by the final year students of MA Fine Art at the Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh.

日本語合唱団は、３月８日、月曜日に、ある展示会のオープニングで歌います。この展示会は、エディンバラ大学、エディンバラ芸術大学のファインアートのＭＡ専攻の最終学年の学生さんたちによって企画されるものです。 

A new song for the next Japanese Singing Group is 'Haruyo koi' (Longing for spring) which was written, composed and sung by Ms Yumi Matsutoya, and arranged by Mr Masataka Matsutoya.

The Japanese Singing Group had a party at Tang's Japanese Restaurant　yesterday. In total eight members attended it. We all had a great time!

The Japanese Singing Group plans to practice a song called 'Night with a hazy moon' (Oboro Dukiyo) in the next meeting on 25 February.

On Thursday, the third meeting of the Japanese Siging Group was held. In total ten people, including two new ones joined the meeting.

Today I attended the lecture by the Consul General of Japan in Edinburgh, Mr Masataka Tarahara held at the University of Glasgow.

For preparing the film I am hoping to make, I would like to watch films or TV programmes which might really well catch the contemporary British society, in particular in relation to young generation.

Today we sang Kiroro's 'Best Friend'. Although we struggled, we managed to sing properly in the end in harmony!

This song I mention is a song sung by a group called the Folk Crusaders in 1967 in Japan  and was stopped to sell the record because of political considerations at that time.

私が言及している歌は、１９６７年にザ・フォーク・クルセダーズと呼ばれたグループによって発表されたのですが、当時の政治的背景もからみ、結果的に発売中止となった歌です。

Today I would like to write what I considered by watching the film 'Departures'. In one word, I was really moved by this film.

今日は、映画「おくりびと」を見て、私が何を思ったのかを書きたいと思います。一言で言うと、この映画に私はとても感動しました。

I have recently heard of the film called 'Tony Takitani', which is based on one of the novels by Mr Haruki Murakami. The music score was made by Mr Ryuichi Sakamoto. I wonder if somebody has got a DVD of this film.

I consider setting certain standard for appropriate behaviour would be necessary in conducting various activities.

I wonder if there are people who are interested in joining an English class to improve English ability for discussions, probably twice a week.

おそらく一週間に二回、議論のための英語能力を向上させる、英語クラスに関心がある方がいらっしゃらないでしょうか。

Yesterday this year's first meeting for the Film Group was held after watching Tokyo Story. Six people joined it and I enjoyed the discussion very much!

In January 2010 you can watch some Japanese films at the Filmhouse in Edinburgh. One of them is Departures (Okuribito), which won Oscar for best foreign language film category in 2009.

I was very sorry I suddenly cancelled the meeting for the Japanese Singing Group yesterday. I slept more than 24 hours continuously and feel much better now. Ｉ sincerely apologise those who planned to attend the meeting.

The Year-End Party was held at Bonsai from 7pm yesterday. There were 26 people who attended. Thank you very much indeed, everybody who attended!

The Japan Society of Scotland was formed in 1986. The current secretary, Mr Tim Steward is attending the Year-End Party on 15 December.

Last night I had a film night at Forest Cafe, Edinburgh, from 6pm. The film watched was 'Nausicaa of the valley of the wind'.

We had 10 members in the fourth meeting of the Japanese Singing Group held on 5 November! A surprise was that Ms Calyn Tsukishima, a professional Japanese musician in the pop music, arranged a song for us to　sing with harmony.  

１１月５日にもたれた日本語合唱団の４回目の集まりには、１０人の方が参加してくださいました！一つの大きな驚きは、ポップ音楽の分野での、プロの日本の音楽家である月嶋カリンさんが、私たちのために、コーラスをつけて歌うために、ある歌のアレンジをしてくださったことでした。

The first session of the English Classes for Japanese speakers was held on 30 October from 5pm at the Tollcross Community Centre.

日本語話者のための英語クラスの最初の回がTollcross Community Centreで、１０月３０日の午後５時から持たれました。

Yesterday I attended the Edinburgh University Japanese Society's Film Night held at the Brass Monkey in Drummond Street, Edinburgh. It started at 8.30pm and we watched a film entitled 'Zatōichi' directed by Mr Takeshi Kitano.

昨日、エディンバラ、ドラモンドストリートにある、Brass Monkeyで開かれたエディンバラ大学ジャパニーズ・ソサエティの映画ナイトに参加してきました。会は、午後８時半に始まり、北野武さん監督の「座頭市」と題された映画を見ました。

Yesterday the third meeting of the Film Group was held at the Filmhouse Cafe Bar after watching a film entitled 'The Ceremony' by the director Nagisa Oshima screened at the Filmhouse.

昨日、映画の会の三回目の集まりが、フィルムハウスで上映された、大島渚監督による「儀式」という映画を見たあと、フィルムハウスのカフェバーで開かれました。

The third meeting of the Japanese Singing Group was held on 22 October. Apart from the girl of the age of nine and one student, everyboy was the same members as the previous meeting.

日本語合唱団の三回目の集まりが１０月２２日に持たれました。９歳の女の子と、一人の学生を除いては、皆が前回の集まりと同じメンバーでした。

Yesterday I attended a workshop on Jōruri, a traditional Japanese storytelling by the master Tsuruga Wakasanojō XI of the Shinnai school of Jōruri and one of his disciples, Ms Tsuruga Isejirō.

昨日、新内浄瑠璃の鶴賀若狭掾１１代目家元とお弟子さんのお一人の鶴賀伊勢次郎さんによる、伝統的な日本の語り、浄瑠璃のワークショップに参加してきました。

The second meeting of the Film Group was held yesterday after watching a film entitled 'Kyoto, My Mother's Place' by the director Nagisa Oshima. Since this film has not been screened nationwide in Japan, for many Japanese this film has not been well known.

映画の会の第二回目の集まりが、昨日、大島渚監督による「京都、私の母の場所」という映画を見たあともたれました。この映画は、日本では全国的には上映されておらず、多くの日本人にも余り知られていないものです。

I visited London on 7 Obtober and enjoyed talking to interesting individuals.  It was really an intensive day, but I received so much encouragement from all the people I met.  

１０月７日にロンドンを訪問し、興味深い方々とのお話を、楽しんできました。本当に集中した一日でしたが、お会いしたどなたからもたくさんの励ましを受けました。

The second meeting of the Japanese Singing Group was held today. There were 6 people attended which included a girl in the age of 9. We sang again 'Singing of frogs' and 'Flowers', but added a song called 'Furusato' (hometown). We sang the first song in a round divided by 6 groups and the harmony was very beautiful again! 

日本語合唱団の二回目の集まりが今日もたれました。９歳の女の子を含んで６人の参加でした。再び、「かえるの合唱」と「花」を歌いましたが、「故郷」という歌も加えました。最初の曲は、６つのグループに分かれて、輪唱をしましたが、ハーモニーがやはりとても美しかったです！

A new class is planned to practice English with a well qualified and experienced Japanese teacher. The class will probably be held from 3 to 5 pm on every Friday from 30 Octoer in the city centre of Edinburgh. The teacher is Mr Takayuki Miura, whose self introductory note and explanations on the class are the following:
