About the Japanese Singing Group 日本語合唱団について

The Japanese Singing Group has already 33 individuals who has attended during 17 meetings since last September.

日本語合唱団は、昨年９月以来の１７回の集まりを通じて、３３名の方に参加してきていただいています。

Since the meetings are held in Edinburgh, most of attendants live in Edinburgh. Some have already left Edinburgh. At the Spring Concert on 28 May, around 15 members will be singing.

集まりがエディンバラで持たれているため、ほとんどの参加者は、エディンバラに住んでおられます。何人かは、すでにエディンバラを去られています。５月２８日のコンサートでは、約１５人のメンバーが歌います。

The members include full-time workers and people who have been looking for jobs, but the majority are students from Edinburgh University, Edinburgh College of Art, an Heriot-Watt University and so on. There are also two girls, around 10 years old. The age group is chiefly in their 20s and 30s. Among 33, 19 are female while 14 are male.

メンバーは、フルタイムで働いている方、また仕事を現在探している方もおられますが、多くは、エディンバラ大学、エディンバラ芸術大学、ヘリオットワット大学、スティーブンソンカレッジ等の学生の方々です。１０歳ぐらいの二人の女の子もいます。年代層は、主に、２０代、３０代です。３３名のうち、１９名は女性、１４名は、男性です。

The group performed in front of an audience in four occasions so far, respectively at the Music and Art Party hosted by the Edinburgh Japanese Church, the year-end party for 2009 organised by Atsuko Betchaku, an exhibition opening for final year students of MA fine art at the Edinburgh College of Art, and Edinburgh University Japanese Society Karaoke in 2010.   

合唱団は、これまで４回聴衆の前で、歌ってきています。それぞれ、エディンバラ日本語教会によって主催された音楽と芸術のパーティ、別役厚子によって組織された２００９年忘年会、エディンバラ芸術大学のMAファインアートの最終学年の学生の方々による展示会のオープニング、そして、エディンバラ大学ジャパニーズソサイティの２０１０年カラオケでです。

A member once described her feeling to sing in the Japanese Singing Group that she feels united with others through singing. In terms of our singing, after the performance at the above Karaoke event, somebody informed me that was 'poignant and touching'.

あるメンバーは、日本語合唱団で歌うことについての彼女の感覚を、歌を通して他のひとたちと繋がる感じがするとかつて述べておられました。私たちの歌については、上記のカラオケイベントでのパフォーマンスの後で、ある方が「心に強く訴えるもので、感動的だった」と伝えてくださいました。

Ms Calyn Tsukishima, professional  soul singer from Japan and special guest to the concert, once told me that when you sing imaging what you are singing, that could make the lister imagine that. It is a magic of singing. Singing could convey people's hearts. Songs we are singing mostly include important messages beyond national boundaries and period. I sincerely hope our singing could reach each audience's heart at the concert.

日本のプロのソウル歌手であり、コンサートの特別ゲストである、月嶋カリンさんは、一度、私に次のようにおっしゃいました。歌っていることをイメージして歌うと、聞く側もそれをイメージできるのだと。それは歌うことの魔法だと。歌うことは、人々の心をも伝えることができるのでしょうか。私たちが歌う歌のほとんどは、国を超えた、時代を超えた大事なメッセージを含んでいます。私たちの歌が、コンサートでのひとりひとりの聴衆の方の心に届くことを心から願っています。
