Ms Calyn Tsukishima 月嶋カリンさん

For the Spring Concert on 28b May jointly hoted by Edinburgh University Japanese Society and the Japanese Singing Group, we are having Ms Calyn Tsukishima, professional soul singer from Japan. She is the only Japanese singer who has performed at the legendary Body and Soul in New York City.

エディンバラ大学ジャパニーズソサイティと日本語合唱団によって共催される５月２８日の春のコンサートには、日本からプロのソウル歌手である月嶋カリンさんをお迎えすることになっています。彼女は、伝説的なニューヨークシティのＢｏｄｙ　ａｎｄ　Ｓｏｕｌで歌われた唯一の日本人歌手です。

Body and Soul is a club in New York City, which seems to have been considered as the most popular club in New York City. She has been very much influenced by Gospel music and Black music. She is a singer-songwriter and many songs have been used for popular TV programmes or as commercial songs in Japan. Ms Tsukishima has shown a great interst in the Japanese Singing Group while she was living in London last year and since last September she has been supporting the group. She has arranged one song for the group to sing in harmony. The Japanese Singing Group and Ms Tsukishima will be jointly singing this song at the concert.

月嶋さんは、昨年まだロンドンに滞在しておられた際に日本語合唱団にとても関心を示してくださり、昨年の９月以来、合唱団を支援してくださってきています。合唱団のためにある歌をハーモニーで歌えるようアレンジもしてくださっています。コンサートでは、この歌を合唱団と月嶋さんが一緒に歌うことになっています。

For this concert, she is coming to Edinburgh only with possible finantial supports from us for her return flight tickets and accommodation costs, for which we have been now selling tickets. At the Spring Concert, she will be singing three Scottish folk songs in English and several Japanese songs: some solo and others with the Japanese Singing Group.
