Film night for 'Tokyo Sonata' 1 「トウキョウソナタ」映画の夜１

I am very sorry for this much delayed report. The seventh meeting of the Film Group, jointly run by the Welcoming International Cinema Club, was held on 15 April at the Tollcross Community Centre from 6:30pm.

大変遅れたご報告になりましたこと、大変申し訳ありません。第七回目の映画の会の集まりは、ウェルカミング国際映画クラブとともに開催され、トルクロス・コミュニティ・センターにて、４月１５日に午後６時半よりもたれました。

There were around 15 people watched the film. Since the starting time was slightly delayed, when the film finished only 15 minutes were left for discussions. In total, 11 people stayed for discussing the film. They were originally from varieties of countries like Cuba, Spain, Brazil, Iran, China, Britain and Japan.

映画を鑑賞されたのは、およそ１５名の方々でした。開始時間が少し遅れたため、映画が終わったときには、ほんの１５分が、討論のために残されたのみでした。合計で１１名の方が映画を議論するために残ってくださいました。キューバ、スペイン、ブラジル、イラン、中国、イギリス、日本のように、もとは、様々な国からこられていました。

After the discussion at the centre since most of them found worth continuing the discussions, we moved to Filmhouse Cafe Bar and stayed there for another 40 minutes or so. I was amazed nine people joined this extra session.

センターでの討論のあと、ほとんどの方が続けるに値すると思ってくださり、わたしたちは、フィルムハウスのカフェバーへと移動し、４０分ほどいました。私自身、この特別セッションに９名ものかたが参加してくださったことにとても驚きました。

The discussion was very interesting. I myself felt it inspiring and enjoyable. In fact, through it I developed my understanding of the film further.

議論はとても興味深かったです。示唆的で、楽しむことができました。実際、議論を通じて、映画への私の理解をさらに深めることができました。

As a general opinion, a person pointed out that the situation depicted in the film like losing jobs because of economic cilmates is happening everywhere. In this sense this film dealt with a universal theme. On the other hand, one was shocked by the woman's role in the family in Japan depicted in the film where she never had initiative, stayed at home and was passive. Another also stated how people in the Japanese society tend easily to feel ashamed losing jobs and authority.  

一般的な意見として、一人の方は、この映画の中で描かれた、経済状況がゆえに仕事を失うというような、映画に描かれた状況は、どこでも起っていることだと指摘されました。この意味では、この映画は普遍的なテーマを扱っていました。他方で、ある方は、決してイニシアティブをとらず、家におり、受動的な映画の中で描かれた日本の家族の中での女性の役割にショックを受けていました。また、別の方は、どれほど日本社会では人々が仕事や権威を失うことに、容易に恥を感じる傾向があるかに言及していました。

In connection with the theme of the film, it was pointed out that this family don't share opinions and there were no communications. Even though in the end they recovered harmony the father only managed to work as a cleaner. Their finantial situation did not change. Thus in his opinion, there were no proper hope shown in the film. 映画のテーマとの関係では、 この家族は意見を共有しない、何のコミュニケーションもないということが指摘されました。最後には、彼らは調和を取り戻したのですが、そうでさえ、父親は、掃除夫としての仕事を得たにすぎませんでした。彼らの財政的な状況は、何も変化していませんでした。こうして、彼の意見によれば、この映画には、なんの適切な意味での希望がしめされてはいませんでした。（次回に続く）
