Film Group for 'Ponyo' 「崖の上のポニョ」の映画の会

The next meeting of the Film Group is to be held at the Filmhouse Cafe Bar after watching 'Ponyo' directed by Mr Hayao Miyazaki on Sunday, 4 April starting at 1pm at the Filmhouse, Edinburgh.

次回の映画の会の集まりは、エディンバラにあるフィルムハウスで４月４日、日曜日に、午後１時に始まる、宮崎駿さんによって監督された「崖の上のポニョ」をみたあと、フィルムハウスのカフェバーでもたれます。

This film was made in 2008 four years after Mr Miyazaki's previous film. Unfortunately, in comparison with 'Spirited Away' which won Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival and 'Hawl's Moving Castle' which won the Goldern Osella award at the 2004  Venice International Film Festival, this film has got nothing like these well known international awards. 

この映画は宮崎さんの前回の作品から４年後、２００８年に作られました。残念なことに、２００２年のベルリン国際映画祭で金熊賞を得た「千と千尋の神隠し」や、２００４年ベニス国際映画祭で金獅子賞を得た「ハウルの動く城」と比べるならば、この映画はこうした良く知られた国際的な賞を何も得てはいません。

However, for Mr Miyazaki this film was an important one, for example attempting to go back to the starting point of the animation, which is moving papers on which pictures are depicted. Thus the original drawings used for the film were all hand-written using pencils.

ですが、宮崎さんにとってこの映画は、例えば、絵が描かれた紙を動かすというアニメーションの原点に戻ることを試みた大事な映画でした。こうして、この映画に使われた元の絵は、すべて鉛筆を使って手書きで描かれました。

He also stated in relation to this film that he and his companies would not make films which send a message that if you defeat the evil people the world becomes peacefu.

彼は、この映画に関わって、彼と彼の仲間たちは、もし悪人をやっつければ、世界が平和になるというメッセージを送るような映画は作らないと述べていました。

Mr Miyazaki was born in 1941. When he made this film he was 67.

宮崎さんは１９４１年に生まれました。彼がこの映画を作ったときは、６７歳でした。
