The third meeting of the Singing Group 合唱団三回目の集まり　

The third meeting of the Japanese Singing Group was held on 22 October. Apart from the girl of the age of nine and one student, everyboy was the same members as the previous meeting.

日本語合唱団の三回目の集まりが１０月２２日に持たれました。９歳の女の子と、一人の学生を除いては、皆が前回の集まりと同じメンバーでした。

We first sang a round of the song, 'Singing of frogs (Kaeru no Gasshō)'. This time Fumie prepared two types of handwritten vocul scores　oｆ the song 'Homeland (Furusato)'. One was the vocal score of the main melody line suitably amended to the tones of our voices and the other was the vocul score for a sub-melody. We practiced both, in particular the sub-melody following Fumie who made these two scores. Then divided into two groups we sang making a harmony. Actually it was difficult to sing the sub melody without being influenced by the other group which sang the main melody. But when we managed well, the harmony was really wonderful!

最初に、「かえるの合唱」の歌を輪唱しました。今回は、史恵さんが、「故郷」という歌の、二種類の手書きのボーカル用の楽譜を準備してくださいました。一つは、私たちの声の高さに合うように修正された主旋律のボーカル用の楽譜で、もう一つは、副旋律のためのボーカル用楽譜でした。私たちは、両方を、特に、副旋律を、史恵さんの後を追って、練習しました。そして、二つのグループに分かれて、ハーモニーを作って歌いました。実際のところ、特に副旋律を歌う際に、主旋律のグループに影響されずに、歌うのは難しかったです。ですが、うまくできた時、ハーモニーは、本当にすばらしかったです！

A song entitled 'Cherryblossom (Sakura)' composed and sung by Mr Naotarō Moriyama and written by him and Mr Kaito Okachimachi was also practiced. This song was introduced to me by Jamie who once experienced singing this song solo in a concert. First the lyrics were examined line by line. I showed my own interpretation of this song considering some comments made by Mr Moriyama, the picture of the jacket for its CD, and the year this became a great hit in Japan which was 2003. Different interpretations were also suggested by other attendants. We first listened to Jamie's solo, and Fumie's solo, since the other two were not familiar with this song. Then we practiced two bars at once, following Jamie and Fumie in turn. Finally we sang through the first stanza of the song together.

森山直太朗さんによって作曲され、歌われ、また彼と御徒町凧さんによって作詞された、「さくら」と題された歌も練習しました。私はこの歌を、あるコンサートでこの歌を独唱したことのある、Jamieさんから紹介されました。最初に、一行ごとに歌詞を吟味しました。私は、森山さんのいくつかのコメント、CDのジャケットの絵、またこの歌が大きなヒットとなった２００３年という年を考慮しながら、私なりの解釈を示しました。違った解釈も他の参加者からは提案されました。他の二人はこの歌になじみがなかったため、最初にJamieさんの独唱、そして史恵さんの独唱を聞きました。そのあと、Jamieさんと史恵さんに交互について、一度に２小節ずつ練習しました。最後に、一緒にこの歌の一番を通して歌いました。

We are practicing another song newly next time, which is Momiji, a Japanese school song first introduced in 1911 into a primary school music text book.

次回には、初等学校の音楽教科書に１９１１年に最初に登場した、日本の学校唱歌である、もみじという歌を加えて練習します。
