English classes for serious learners 本気で学ぶ人の英語クラス

A new class is planned to practice English with a well qualified and experienced Japanese teacher. The class will probably be held from 3 to 5 pm on every Friday from 30 Octoer in the city centre of Edinburgh. The teacher is Mr Takayuki Miura, whose self introductory note and explanations on the class are the following:

十分な資格と、経験をもった日本人教師と一緒に、英語の練習をする新しいクラスを計画しています。クラスは、エディンバラ市の中心部で、おそらく、１０月３０日から毎週金曜日の午後5時から６時半に開かれます。教師は、三浦隆行さんで、以下は三浦さんの自己紹介とクラスについてのご説明です。

Born in Yamagata City, Japan. Currently a PhD student in Psychology (Psycholinguistics) at the University of Edinburgh. I obtained my MPhil from the University of Cambridge in July 2009. While a postgraduate student at the Tokyo Gakugei University, I taught English at Gakushuin Boys’ Senior High School as a part-time teacher and experienced to improve its pupils' English abilities dramatically. I also taught English at a public junior high school in my hometown as a temporary full-time teacher. I also taught in a community centre to adult learners.

In terms of my hobby, I like sport and practiced athletics in my junior and senior high school days. At university, I played baseball and judo.

山形市出身。現在、エディンバラ大学のPhDの学生で、心理学で、特に心理言語学を研究領域としています。今年の７月に、ケンブリッジ大学にて英語・応用言語学のMPhilを取得しました。東京学芸大学大学院在学中は、学習院高等科にて非常勤講師をし、生徒の英語力を飛躍的に伸ばした経験があります。地元山形では、公立中学校で常勤講師として英語を教えました。公民館で社会人向けの英会話サークルでの講師も経験しました。
　

趣味については、スポーツが好きで、中学高校と陸上競技部に所属していました。大学では軟式野球と柔道をしました。

Goal and structure of the class:
The structure of the class is entirely up to the students’ readiness and needs. I will not prepare or ask you to buy a specific textbook. I will do it once I know why and how they would like to improve their English skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and how prepared they are.
In class, there will be no specific explanations about the grammar. The students will be exposed to English at different speeds, frequencies, and volumes so that they will be able to use English practically in whatever condition and situation they are. In addition, they will be asked to use their English as quickly, accurately, and fluently as possible. Preferably, the language medium of the class is only English. The class will involve materials and equipments which stimulate the students’ visual and aural senses so that they can acquire English and will remain competent users.

授業の目標と形式：
授業形式は参加者の方々が授業を受けるにあたり、どれくらいの用意ができているのか、そしてどんなことに授業を受ける必要性を感じているかによって異なります。教科書などは用意しません。参加者の方がなぜ、どのように英語力を伸ばしたいのか、そしてどれくらい用意ができているのか、に応じて用意します。
　授業では、特に文法説明など、「勉強」的なことは行ないません。参加者の方は出来るだけ多量の英語に異なった速度、頻度、そして音量で触れることになります。これによって、どんな状態（疲れていても）でも、どんな状況（騒がしい環境）でも実際に英語を使えるようになることを目指します。参加者の方には出来るだけ速く、正確に、流暢に英語を使うことが求められます。授業での言語媒体は英語のみとします。
　英語を「習得」し、「出来る」英語の使い手となるように、授業では視覚・聴覚を刺激するような教材、
そして機器（PC, Net 教材, etc.）を使用します。

For the first two meetings, there would be only charges for covering the room rent £1 per person. But from the third meeting £10 will be charged per person for one session of one and half an hour. This would cover room rent, materials, other expenses for audio and visual equipments including internet connections and the reward to Mr Miura's preparation and teaching work.  

最初の二回については、お一人1ポンドの部屋代をお願いすることになります。ですが、３回目からは、一回一時間半に対して、お一人１０ポンドの参加費が必要です。これは、部屋代、教材費、他のインターネット接続を含む視聴覚設備にかかる費用、また、三浦さんの準備と教える作業への報酬を含んでいます。
